Team Dayā School in Guatemala is Complete

The Team Dayā school in the Guatemalan community of Caserío Sector Los Castro.

As we head to Nchetana, Malawi to break ground on Team Dayā’s fourth school building project, we have some exciting news to share.

The prior school shelter.

The Team Dayā school in the Guatemalan community of Caserío Sector Los Castro, where construction began on March 13th, is now complete. It is another great example of what can be done in partnership with local communities and our supporters.

The 35 students in grades first through sixth have moved to the new school building from the prior shelter that was made from boards, sheet metal and an earth floor. The addition of a second teacher is planned and there is room to add students in the community that are currently not enrolled.

Pablo Ajvac

“Thank you, buildOn Guatemala and Team Dayā,” said Pablo Ajvac, one of the local community leaders and the secretary of the Community Councils of Urban and Rural Development. “This is not for me, it is for our children and was born from the heart. God sent them here. God saw that we were in need and then sent us their help. I am grateful, with all my heart, and believe that God will compensate them. I am grateful. Thank you for this.”

By the end of the project, the men and women of Caserio Sector Los Castro had contributed 525 volunteer work days to the building of their new school.

When asked about Team Dayā’s visit, Ajvac said, “I felt happier when I knew that our partners were coming. Everyone was in my house! I was super happy. During those five days, Sector Los Castro was happy because of their visit. Thank you!”

A special thanks to Team Dayā member Mauricio O’Connell who worked so diligently to raise funds for this school. He is already working on raising for our next project and we hope his schedule will allow him to join us next time.

Thanks again to all of our supporters who make this work possible.
