On the heels of the Jeff T. Green Family Foundation renewing its support, Team Dayā is pleased to report – in just 24 days – we will be heading to Nchetana, Malawi to break ground on the group’s fourth school building project.
The Community
Nchetana is a community of 3,050 in the Kasungu region of Malawi. It is a primarily Chewa population and practices Christianity. Farming is the primary source of income – they grow corn, soy beans, peanuts and sunflowers.
The School Project
We will be breaking ground for a school building to serve one hundred fifth and sixth graders. The school, named M’mbula, has been able to build classrooms in 2019 and 2021 to serve the first, second, third and fourth graders.
The remaining students – those in fifth and sixth grade – still use a classroom built from grass (see the photo above).

Overall, the M’mbula school has 418 students (203 girls and 215 boys) and five teachers (one female and four male). Of this population, 100 students are in the fifth and sixth grades. The fifth grade has 55 students (30 girls and 25 boys) and the sixth grade has 45 students (20 girls and 25 boys).
Our Team Dayā Malawi Group
This is our largest groundbreaking group – ten folks are busy raising funds and traveling to Nchetana, Malawi for our July 2nd start to partner with the community in breaking ground for the new school.
Beyond our core of advertising and technology executives, we have a mother – daughter team (Davina Kent and Riley Jacobson), our youngest member (Riley, age 14), three former mastercard employees (Chevan Nanayakkara, Vib Prasad, Jay Sears), three Rye, NY residents (Kerri Olson, Lauren Rosen, Jay Sears), two Ampersand employees (Nicolle Pangis, Davina Kent), two Wharton Business School classmates (Dan Magder, Vib Prasad), two longtime IAB committee volunteers (Nicolle Pangis, Jay Sears), two Team Dayā school building alums (Mike Benedek, Jay Sears) and – most important – eight new to Team Dayā school building (Riley Jacobson, Davina Kent, Dan Magder, Chevan Nanayakkara, Kerri Olson, Nicolle Pangis, Vib Prasad, Lauren Rosen).
Subscribe to our email list to follow our updates. If you are interested in joining a future school build, please contact our head of recruiting, Jaryd Knutsen.
