School in Nchetana, Malawi Nears Completion

Our Team Dayā school construction in Nchetana, Malawi is nearing completion. Many thanks to our team, our families and our supporters. Your support is needed to continue our school building.

The week of July 3rd, eight Team Dayā members worked with the community of Nchetana to break ground on a school building to serve one hundred fifth and sixth graders. Our team members – Riley JacobsonDavina KentChevan NanayakkaraKerri OlsonNicolle PangisVib PrasadLauren Rosen and Jay Sears – worked, danced, sang and celebrated with community members as we broke ground on the new school. By the end of the first week, the foundation was dug and the walls of the new school were rising. In the next eight weeks or so the building will be completed.

The school, named M’mbula, built classrooms in 2019 and 2021 to serve the first, second, third and fourth graders. To date, the remaining students – those in fifth and sixth grade – still use a classroom built from grass.

If you are interested in joining a future school build, please contact our head of recruiting, Jaryd Knutsen. We have a November 19th school start in Nicaragua this fall and a March 2024 start in Nepal.

Take a look at the recent construction photos:

Latrines for girls and boys are also constructed with each school:

And here is a reminder of what the existing stick and straw building looks like:
