Michel de Rijk – Singapore

Bio: Dutch living in Singapore. For the last 20 years, active in the advertising industry from publisher to adtech, agency and consultancy. Recently I decided to focus on health, family and purpose so I’m spending my time with my wife Bex and teenage daughters Holly and Riley. Ideally on the ski slopes or cycling and running through the beauty that the world has to offer.

Why: Having travelled a significant amount of time in Asia and Africa, the realization that where children are born significantly increases or decreases their chance to succeed in life is real. Contributing even the slightest to give more children the chance to excel is the least we can do.

Education is key for everyone, especially at such a young age. With helping Team Dayā build schools in rural areas, we are not only helping the individual children with basic schooling needs, but we help them prepare for higher education in the cities, which will further develop not only them, but the whole village. It has an exponential effect.

Schools also play a critical role in the rural communities, giving a sense of belonging and community spirit amongst students, teachers and families. We all need communities to stay strong and empower each other.

Besides my personal contribution to join Team Dayā on the next Nepal trip, I will also actively drive further participation from APAC based team members and supporters.
